YOUTH EMPLOYMENT IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY, an international conference of 
scholars and activists, will be held at Hofstra University on SEPT. 15 
and 16, 2005. The Center for the Study of Labor & Democracy, the 
conference organizer, invites you to join noted economists, 
sociologists, educators, and representatives from government, labor, and 
youth organizations. David Blanchflower (Dartmouth), Liza Featherstone 
(The Nation), Rafael Gomez (London School of Economics), Joe Hansen 
(President, UFCW), Harry Holzer (Georgetown), Carl Lipscombe (U.S. 
Student Assoc.), Naoki Mitani (Kobe U.), Paul Ryan (Kings College, 
London), and Stuart Tannock (UC Berkeley) are among the speakers from 
countries including Argentina, Canada, Denmark, England, France, India, 
Italy, Korea, and Japan, as well as the U.S.

The participants will be discussing such pressing topics as: 
inter-country differences in youth unemployment, pay stagnation and work 
scheduling problems; shrinking access to affordable higher education, 
training, and job placement; occupational hazards and health insurance 
coverage; racial, ethnic, gender and class employment differentials and 
discrimination; immigration's impacts on the youth labor force; 
adult/youth job competition; youth involvement with unions and other 
worker advocacy organizations; relevant government employment and pay 
policies; and strategies to improve both the quantity and quality of 
youth job opportunities in the U.S. and other advanced economies.

The conference will be held on Hofstra's Long Island campus in 
Hempstead, NY, easily accessible within an hour by commuter train or car
