It was a huge success, with over 700 participants, the biggest by any
group or coalition of groups since the war in Iraq started.
Just a couple items for now relevant to other posts on this list:
* Re the revelations about Fallujah: a motion, put forward by a
veteran of the Battle of Fallujah, was passed unanimously to support a
week of solidarity with the people of Fallujah in November (more
details when available).
* A motion was put forward expressing solidarity with Brian Manning of
wikileaks and opposing government persecution of him. When the chair
asked if there were any speakers against the motion, an elderly man
raised his hand. We all waited as he walked slowly to the mike,
wondering what he could possibly say to oppose it. When he got to the
mike he said: "This motion isn't nearly strong enough. We should give
Brian a medal!" The crowd broke out in cheers and laughter.
* The most significant event of the conference was the almost
unanimous passage of amendments to the main Action Proposal calling
for an End to US Aid to Israel, endorsing BDS, the right of return,
etc. This means that the fall local actions and spring nationwide
mobilizations called by the conference will be the first actions
called by an authoritative gathering of antiwar forces in which
Palestine is front and center.
