I appreciated the reference to Buddha's "Burning House" metaphor.
Brecht's poem, however, suffers from the nihilist interpretation of
the buddhist category of 'emptiness' as nothingness. Emptiness,
rather, invokes a state of psychological freedom, and as such, is
rather pregnant with possibility. Emptiness implies fullness. The
burning house metaphor in buddhist thought concerns the existential
state of suffering involved with the construction of the 'self'
edifice. Buddha taught strategies for the deconstruction of said
edifice before it catches fire. The problem, of course, is that most
people don't seek solutions until they are "on fire".
That said, the analogy to "Capitalism's Burning House" is really very
interesting.
