48% of the faculty in the US was adjunct professors 4 years ago, so you 
can assume that it is a majority now. Although adjuncts are very 
vulnerable to layoffs, this is exactly what might make them consider 
joining a union. The main obstacle is the seductive belief that they 
might become insiders one day.
