The New York Times says that the PT is worried that the second round
may be "unpredictable":

"But Mr. da Silva's strategists in the governing Workers' Party worry
that she will win just enough votes from voters dissatisfied with the
corruption that has flourished during his administration to force an
unwelcome and unpredictable mid-October runoff."

==============

Democracy is messy. Sometimes the result is unwelcome and
unpredictable. Socialists need to fight for their own program as
embodied in their candidates, but above all to show that they are
indeed for democracy.
