[Marxism] Do you agree or disagree with the following proposition

I would reword it:

The premiss of historical materialism is that the production and
reproduction of the material requirements of life is the condition for human
history. Thus the study of history must always begin here. 
Humans have produced and reproduced their material requirements prior to
class differentiation. They will continue to do so when social classes cease
to exist. As long as material scarcity exists humans will labor under the
realm of necessity and struggle with nature. The realm of freedom can only
begin with the end of production driven by the whip of necessity (Marx says
this nicely in the Grundrisse I believe).

Would you agree that at the founding of historical materialism, Marx and
Engels didn't quite give as much attention to the impact of the reproduction
of human life on the development of history as they did to the production of
material requirments of life ?
